Balver Forest nature reserve
The nature reserve Balver Wald is a 449.82 hectare nature reserve (NSG) north of Balve in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The NSG was designated for the first time in 2015 by the district council of the Märkisches Kreis with the 2nd amendment to landscape plan No. 2 Balve-Mitteleres-Hönnetal . Since 2004, 442 ha of the NSG have been an FFH area Balver Wald (No. DE-4613-303) 442 ha.
Area description
The NSG is part of the structurally rich forest area Balver Wald. The area is mainly occupied by red beech forests. These are Hainsimsen-Buchenwald and Waldmeister-Buchenwald. There are also spruce and oak forests. There are local alder, ash and softwood alluvial forests. Around two thirds of the NSG were formed as high forest in 2015, around one third consists of poles. The terrain with its strong relief is traversed by four natural to near-natural rivers from west to east, which flow into the Hönne outside the area .
The following species of Community interest according to the Habitats or Birds Directive were found: bullhead , black woodpecker and gray woodpecker .
