The wet grassland nature reserve on the Hengsbeck brook with a size of 2.4 hectares is located south of Hengsbeck in the municipality of Eslohe in the Hochsauerland district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The area was designated as a nature reserve (NSG) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Eslohe landscape plan . The nature reserve Hengsbecker Bach from the source area north of Landenbeckerbruch to Bremscheid surrounds the NSG.

Area description

Parts of the floodplain area of the Hengsbeck brook. At the Hengsbeck brook, when NSG was designated, a mosaic of wet pastures and wet and wet fallow land was in the floodplain area. The Hengsbeck stream is close to nature and is accompanied by tall perennials and alders. The southern part of the area was occupied by fresh to dry, more intensively used pastures.

The landscape plan says about the NSG: “Due to their good state of preservation and characteristics, the wet grasslands on the Hengsbeck brook occupy an excellent place within comparable areas in the natural area" Innersauerländer Senken ". They represent important refuge areas of the wet grassland community in the heavily agricultural natural area. The priority development goal is the further extensification of the grassland and the preservation of the near-natural stream structures. "

The NSG is a resting place for dwarf snipe , snipe and gray shrike . The red backed killer and skylark bred in the area .

Protection purpose

Preservation and optimization of a species-rich meadow valley section. In particular, the valuable wet and wet grasslands in the NSG should be preserved. Preservation of the near-natural Hengsbeck brook. Protection of large habitats in accordance with Section 62 of the Landscape Act of North Rhine-Westphalia and the occurrence of rare plant species, as well as resting and breeding areas for endangered bird species.
