The Mittagsbrüche nature reserve is a 56.27 hectare nature reserve (NSG) east of the village of Schönau in the municipality of Wenden in the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia . It was designated in 2008 by the district council with the landscape plan No. 4 Wenden - Drolshagen . In the east of the NSG, the federal motorway 45 is just a few meters away. For a 28.00 ha part area, designated in regional planning as GIB Ostheldener Höhe (GIB = area for commercial and industrial use), only a temporary protection was established. The protection ceases to apply as soon as a corresponding development plan has become final.

Area description

The NSG is a grassland area with streams and wet grassland complex. The NSG is a breeding, migratory and wintering area of ​​rare and endangered bird species, in particular meadow breeders and other types of open land such as snaps , whinchat , skylark , lapwing , red-backed shrike , northern gray shrike , wheatear , corncrake and meadow pipit . There are rare plants from the Kleinseggenriede such as swamp blood-eye and swamp violet .
