Süselberg
The Süselberg nature reserve is located in the city of Freudenberg ( Niederndorf district ) in North Rhine-Westphalia . The nature reserve covers 45.9 hectares , spread over two areas.
Geography and geology
The nature reserve is assigned to the Siegerland natural area in the Rhenish Slate Mountains . A rock embankment along the L 280 road offers a very well-exposed sequence of rocks, which reveals sedimentary structures and fossils. Geologically, this is an undisturbed transition area between two significant geological units (outcrops of the Lower Devonian , transition area from the Middle Siegen Strata to the Upper Siegen Strata; age approx. 400 million years).
The climate in the urban area of Freudenberg is described as Atlantic, rich in clouds and rain. The mean annual temperature is 8 ° C.
Area description
Rough meadows and pastures are named as the primary biotope type of the protected area. The nature reserve as a whole can be described as an open, partially covered with spruce, south to south-east exposed and poor slope area. The slopes are sunny all day. There are lean and fat meadows , which are structured by hedge trains , forest edges , embankments and individual trees. The structuring results in a variety of biotope types, some of which are endangered supraregionally, which are interlocked like a mosaic.
There are also individual oak-birch coppice forests . Some areas are grazed by migratory sheep.
Flora and fauna
The following species are listed as notable components of the vegetation:
- Field treetop ( Bromus arvensis )
- Alpenziest ( Stachys alpina )
- Blue monkshood ( Aconitum napellus )
- Spotted Hemlock ( Conium maculatum )
- Dog violet ( Viola canina )
- Little Wintergreen ( Pyrola minor )
- Common orchid ( Orchis mascula )
- Rapunzen bellflower ( Campanula rapunculus )
- Red tooth rust ( Odontites rubra )
- Sand thyme ( Thymus serpyllum )
- Sprouting bear moss ( Lycopodium annotinum )
- Pine Bear Moss ( Huperzia selago )
Examples of the animals found include:
- Reptiles like smooth snakes ,
- Common frog , mountain newt and other amphibians ,
- Birds such as the middle woodpecker , red- backed partridge and partridge ,
- Butterflies such as the aurora butterfly , the black- and- blue blue and the Jakobskrautbär ,
- as well as other insects such as various hymenoptera , bedbugs and ground beetles and arachnids .
Protection purpose
The designation of the nature reserve is carried out for the purpose of maintaining and restoring a south-facing, structurally rich grassland slope area. Lean oat meadows (endangered), hedge trains, lean slope edges and embankments, fallow areas and rock embankments are named as special features. This includes the communities that occur in it, including endangered animal and plant species.
Hazards
The preservation of the biotopes is particularly endangered by alien woody plants such as robinia and various conifers . The task of agricultural cultivation, the fallowing of poor meadows and pastures as well as partial horse grazing also represent a hazard. The preservation of the biotopes should be ensured through maintenance measures such as extensive agriculture or regulated mowing, regulated grazing and the suppression of woody growth (especially sloe , broom ) . In designated zones, reforestation measures are only permitted with trees that are appropriate to the location.
