Johann Baptist von Weißbrod

Johann Baptist Weißbrod , from 1848 Knight von Weißbrod (born November 14, 1778 in Burghausen , † January 14, 1865 in Munich ) was a German obstetrician and university professor .

Life

Weißbrod was the son of a surgeon. In 1797 he took up the study of medicine and went to the University of Ingolstadt , Jena and Vienna before 1801 at the University of Landshut for doctor doctorate was. Under the direction of the personal physician Harz, he first became a general practitioner in Munich, then came to Mühldorf am Inn . There he was in 1804 district court doctor and remained nearly twenty years.

In 1821 Weißbrod accepted a call as professor of obstetrics and forensic medicine at the medical-surgical school in Munich. In 1826 he moved to a chair of the same name at the University of Munich . He was also appointed to the Royal District Medical Council and a member of the Royal Medical Committee. In the academic years 1837/1838 and 1846/1847 he was rector of the university.

Weißbrod was considered a supporter of the natural philosophical direction in medicine.

The history and genre painter Johann Baptist Weißbrod was his grandson. He lived with him at times.
