The Tucherwald is a natural forest reserve in the Wellheim dry valley . It is located in the state forest , which is managed by the Kaisheim forestry company of the Bavarian State Forests AöR (BaySF), as well as in the district of the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forests Ingolstadt .:

location and size

The natural forest reserve (NWR) "Tucherwald" is located on the western slopes of the Wellheimer valley to the Schuttertal south of the Wellheim market and the " Feldmühle " estate . The growth area in the southern Franconian Jura has an area of ​​54.1 hectares (about 180 days' work ) of state forest at 400 to 520 m above sea level .

history

After the NWR “Beixenhart” from the beginning of the 1970s, the NWR “Tucherwald” was designated by the state as the second area of ​​its kind in the Eichstätt district on January 1, 1998. At that time it was one of 149 forest reserves totaling 6123  hectares in Bavaria. Since the NWR designation, there has been no use of any kind, i.e. there has been no more logging, and the trees that had fallen through windthrow or age remained in place, so that the Tucherwald gradually developed into a “ primeval forest ” through natural dynamics . The Tucherwald was previously used as a coppice forest , which can still be seen in some areas from the beech and hazel branches .

For the most part, beech forests of different ages and appearances are growing on the diverse mountain and rocky slopes . They are interspersed with numerous mixed tree species; so dominate next Book oak , hornbeam , linden , maple , ash , alder , birch , aspen and sallow the Tucher forest. In addition, as a rare tree species serviceberry , wild cherry and wild pear encountered. The large fruiting bodies of the tinder sponge , the oak fire sponge and the birch sponge thrive on the dead wood .

fauna

In addition to the usual wild live in Tucher forest and lodge in the hollow trees woodpeckers , owls , screech owls and the shy Dove . The Red Milan is also at home here.
