Nautiks was a rock band from Erfurt . The band, founded in 1968 by Heinz-Jürgen Gottschalk , stood for rock music with clear jazz influences . In the live concerts, they imitated their role models Ray Charles , Aretha Franklin , Cream , Ten Years After and Blind Faith .

Band history

The band was founded by Gotte Gottschalk, who significantly influenced the musical profile of the Nautiks. Gottschalk had previously played together with Jürgen Kerth in the beat band The Spotlights, which was later forcibly renamed to Rampenlichter , until they were banned . Shortly after the founding, the band's first original compositions were created with Wir go am Meer and Lights in your eyes .

Founding cast:

Gottschalk had to start his military service in the founding year. Gottschalk's departure also meant the temporary end of nautical science.

After his return he formed the band again. In addition to Gottschalk and Jereczinsky, Werner Zentgraf (guitar, vocals), Volkmar Jaschke (bass guitar) and Siggi Stifte Hörger (drums) played at the Nautiks from then on. When official cultural policy in the GDR cautiously opened up towards rock music in the GDR in the early 1970s, the Nautiks were one of the first rock bands to be given the opportunity to appear on GDR television, which boosted their popularity and increased the number of live concerts. As a result of this development, the band had obviously fallen out of favor with the local cultural authorities and was confronted in 1973 with the charge of illegally importing western equipment into the GDR. The consequences were a performance ban and a heavy fine. Gottschalk broke up the band and went to Berlin to see Horst Krüger . Hörger and Zentgraf switched to Blues vital .

Peter Förster ( keyboard ), Axel Krause (guitar, vocals) and Siegfried Heilek (drums) attempted to revive the band in 1975. However, they could not build on the earlier successes of the nautical industry. In the 1980s, Nautiks acted as the backing band for Gottschalk, who had started a successful solo career. At the end of the 1980s, the band finally broke up.
