Nayau is an island of volcanic origin in the center of the Lau Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean . Politically, it belongs to the Eastern Division of the island state of Fiji . The island was badly hit by the effects of cyclone Tomas in 2010.

Nayau is located around 30 km northwest of Lakeba , the main island of the archipelago, 30 km southeast of Cicia and 45 km southwest of Tuvuca . The island has a length of 6.2 km, a width of up to 4.3 km and an area of about 17 km². Except for a small spot in the northwest, it is completely surrounded by a coral reef . Nayau is densely forested and characterized by table mountain - like elevations with a height of 162 to 177 meters above sea level. The island forms one of the 13 traditional districts ( Fiji : Tikina ) of the Lau province and is divided into the three villages ( Koro ) Salia (east coast), Liku (southwest coast) and Narocivo (northeast coast), of which Liku is the most important.
