Naze ( Japanese 名 瀬 市 , - shi ) is a city on the island of Amami-Ōshima in the Japanese prefecture of Kagoshima .
history
The village of Naze ( 名 瀬 村 , - son ) was founded on April 1st, 1908 in Ōshima County. On October 1, 1922 it was named Chō and on July 1, 1946 by the US military administration to Shi. On December 25, 1953, the archipelago and Naze were returned to Japan . On February 1, 1955, the village of Mikata ( 三方 村 , -son ) was incorporated into Ōshima County.
On March 20, 2006 Naze united with the city of Kasari ( 笠 利 町 , -chō ) and the village of Sumiyō ( 住 用 村 , -son ), each in the district of Ōshima, to the new city of Amami .
traffic
National road 58 leads across the island to Setouchi . The road also leads - repeatedly interrupted by the water - to Kagoshima on Kyūshū and Naha on Okinawa .
There are also ferry connections from the port of Naze ( 名 瀬 港 , Naze-kō ) to the neighboring islands to Kagoshima or Naha.
education
In Naze there are 7 elementary and middle schools as well as 3 high schools. There is also the Amami Technical School for Nursing and Welfare ( 奄 美 看護 福祉 専 門 学校 , Amami Kango Fukushi Semmon Gakkō ) and the Amami Technical School for Data Processing ( 奄 美 情報 処理 専 門 学校 , Amami Jōhō Shori Semmon Gakkō ).
