Beside the track (original title: Out of Line ) is an American thriller by Johanna Demetrakas from 2001 .

Henri Brulé was sentenced to prison for manslaughter. Gangster Alfonso James uses his relationships to get Brulé out on parole. In return, Brulé is said to kill a competitor of James.

Jenny Capitanas is hired by Brulé as probation officer. At the first meeting, Brulé asked her about private matters, including whether she was married.

Capitanas wins tickets to an opera in a guessing game. She screams with joy and wants to tell her colleagues about it, but realizes that she is alone in the office. She is accompanied to the opera by Brulé. He wants to kiss her after the performance, but she fears that a relationship could cost her the job.

Brulé seduces Capitanas so that she does not disturb his plans. However, he falls in love with the woman who numbs him with a sleeping pill in wine to prevent an attack on a gangster that Brulé is supposed to carry out on behalf of Alfonso James. He overpowers her, breaks free and goes to meet the gangster. The Capitanas following him disturbs the meeting. A fight ensues in which the gangsters are killed. Brulé goes into hiding.

In the last scene, Capitanas meets Brulé in a park. She tells him that he would face a one-year sentence if he turned himself in. Brulé agrees and leaves the park with Capitanas holding hands.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was " developed in a straight line ". The portrayal of the main role is " solid ".
