Sarcophagus of Nehy

Nehy was an ancient Egyptian official under King ( Pharaoh ) Thutmose III. He carried the title Viceroy of Cush and First Herald of the King . He was therefore a very influential official at the royal court.

Nehy accompanied Thutmose III. in his 23rd year of government on his first Syria campaign. Nehy is well attested in Nubia . An inscription from the island of Sai dates to the 25th year of the ruler's reign. Here he also built a chapel and erected a statue.

In Thebes , Nehy is known almost only from parts of his grave equipment. In the Egyptian Museum Berlin is his sarcophagus made of limestone , which is decorated and about 2.55 m long. This monument is of particular importance as there are only a few private sarcophagi from the 18th dynasty and this proves the special position of Nehy. In addition to the sarcophagus, there are various shabtis of him , a statue that also bears the name of Thutmose III. carries and a pyramidion . In the Ramesseum there were various blocks in relief with his name and titles and perhaps come from his burial chapel. However, his grave has not yet been located.
