Neil Fingleton

Neil Fingleton (born December 18, 1980 in Durham , England - † February 25, 2017 ) was a British actor and former basketball player . With a height of 2.32 m, he was the tallest person in the EU until his death .

life and career

Neil Fingleton was originally from Durham, England, and graduated from Worcester , Massachusetts High School in 2000 after moving to the United States to pursue a career as a basketball player.

He won a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later to the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. He graduated with a degree in history in 2004. His professional career only lasted from 2003 to 2007 when an injury forced him to retire. He played for the teams Boston Freazy from the semi-professional league ABA and CB Illescas from Spain, each in the position of the center .

Then he moved back to his hometown and he aspired to an acting career. So he was first seen in some TV documentaries about the problems he encountered due to his size. He took on his first acting role in 2011 in X-Men: First decision as a Russian bodyguard. Other film appearances followed in 47 Ronin and Jupiter Ascending . In 2014 he played the role of the giant Mag the Mighty in Game of Thrones . In 2015 he took on stunt work for the film Avengers: Age of Ultron .

Fingleton died on February 25, 2017 at the age of only 36. Heart failure was found to be the cause of death. He played his last role again in Game of Thrones, when he again took on the role of a giant in the seventh season, who was brought back from the dead as a revenant.
