Neil Shubin
Neil Shubin (born December 22, 1960 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American paleontologist and evolutionary biologist and non-fiction author .

Shubin studied at Columbia University and the University of California, Berkeley, and received his PhD from Harvard University in 1987 . He is professor for "Organic Biology and Anatomy" at the University of Chicago , "Associate Dean" (see Deputy Dean ) in the Committee for Evolutionary Biology and consequently head of the Field Museum of Natural History .
He is one of the discoverers of the approximately 380 million year old fossils of Tiktaalik roseae , a transitional form (see also " Missing Link ") from fish to terrestrial vertebrates . Tiktaalik closes a gap in our understanding of the order in which the anatomical adaptations to rural life developed.
Shubin achieved fame with his popular science bestseller “Your Inner Fish” , published in 2008 . A journey into the 3.5-billion-year history of the human body. " (German edition 2008: "The fish in us a tour of the 3.5 billion years of history of our body.." - Voted " knowledge Book of the Year " 2008), the 2014 also the basis of a three-part television documentary on PBS formed (German: "The history of human development" ). The documentation shows the traces of evolution in the human body. For this he received the Communications Award of the National Academy of Sciences in 2015 with David Dugan and Michael Rosenfeld for “Excellent quality in communicating scientific achievements to the public”.
