Nelson Gray Kinsley (born July 14, 1863 in Canton , Massachusetts , † May 2, 1945 in Kronberg im Taunus ) was an American landscape , hunting and animal painter .

Life

After the death of Kinsley's father, his mother and two sons went on a big trip to Europe . In 1874 the family settled in Frankfurt am Main . At the intercession of Adolf Hoeffler , Kinsley received lessons from Anton Burger in Kronberg from 1878 at the age of 15 . Here he joined the community that his teacher Burger had initiated. From 1882 to 1884 he received private lessons at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , among others with Christian Kröner .

Before going to the art academy in Karlsruhe in 1884 , he married Louise Burger, a daughter of his teacher Burger. In Karlsruhe, Kinsley was a student of Hermann Baisch in 1887/91 .

In 1897 Kinsley returned to Kronberg and settled there. Here he created his mostly small-format pictures in his preferred genre of landscape, hunting and animal painting.
