Nelson Platt Wheeler

Nelson Platt Wheeler (born November 4, 1841 in Portville , Cattaraugus County , New York , †  March 3, 1920 in Pasadena , California ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1911 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Nelson Wheeler attended public schools in his home state, New York. He then worked in land surveying and as a civil engineer. He later moved to Endeavor , Pennsylvania, where he worked in the timber and agriculture industries. He also got into the banking business. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1866 he was elected to the County Commissioner . In his new hometown of Endeavor, he held several local offices. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1878 and 1879 .

In the 1906 congressional election , Wheeler was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 28th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Joseph C. Sibley on March 4, 1907 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1911 . In 1910 he was initially not nominated for re-election by his party. There was then a successful contestation of this pre-election result for him. He then refused the new nomination for the congressional elections that had been proposed to him.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Nelson Wheeler resumed his previous activities. In 1915 he moved to Pasadena, California for health reasons, where he died on March 3, 1920.
