Nemanja Nešić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Немања Нешић * 16th May 1988 in Smederevo , SFR Yugoslavia ; † 6 June 2012 in Smederevo, Serbia ) was a Serbian lightweight - rowers , the two bronze medals at European Rowing Championships won.

Athletic career

At the age of 13, Nešić began rowing in 2001. He had his first international appearances in 2005 and 2006 at the Junior World Championships in rowing in the competition classes four-without and double -fours , although he could not win any medals. In 2007 Nešić rowed in the U23 age group with Milos Nikolic in an easy two-man without to fifth place at the Junior World Championships . In 2009 he reached a fourth place in the easy single at the U23 World Cup.

From the 2008 Olympic season, Nešić was also used in the open age group by the Serbian Association. When Rowing World Cup 2008 in Munich he rowed with Miloš Stanojević in class lightweight double sculls at the 21th place among 29 participating teams. In the following year, the duo was able to take ninth place at the World Championships in Poznan. Nešić and Stanojević also rowed with Nenad Babović and Miloš Tomić in an easy four-without at the 2009 European Championships to bronze, which meant Nešić's first win of an international championship medal.

In the following season, 2010, the Serbian Association with only three athletes in the World Championships in New Zealand, which, however, did not include lightweight rowers. Nešić focused on the European Championships in Portugal with the successful easy foursome from last year . However, the team did not make it into the final, in the end they finished eighth overall. In the following year Nešić, Stanojević, Babović and Tomić rowed at the European Championships in Bulgaria to their second bronze medal and at the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, in an easy four to 12th overall, which means that qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics by one or around 0.6 s was missed. The quartet therefore entered the qualification regatta for two more Olympic starting places in the easy foursome in Lucerne in May 2012. With the fourth place at this event, however, they finally missed the Olympic qualification, for Nešić it was the last participation in a rowing regatta.

Nešić started for the Smederevo VK club from his hometown. His competition weight was 71 kg with a height of 1.85 m.

death

On the morning of June 6, 2012, Nešić passed away during a training session at the age of 24. A good two weeks after he missed the Olympic qualification, he was still in training for a World Cup regatta in Munich on the weekend of June 14th to 17th, 2012. Nešić collapsed in the rowing boat and was taken care of immediately by his present trainer, but he died on site. Heart problems were identified as the cause of death.
