In 2006 he obtained his master's degree with a thesis on the theater by Dušan Kovačević. He did his doctorate at the University of Sarajevo on the ideological instrumentalization in school textbooks. There he is a lecturer at the chair for Serbian literature.

His debut novel Konačari (1995) was published in 1997 under the title Logiergäste bei Volk und Wissen . In it, Veličković describes the siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War from the perspective of an 18-year-old girl who is hiding with her family in the basement of a museum. The book has also been translated into English , Italian , Slovenian , Polish and Macedonian . In 2016 the follow-up novel The Father of My Daughter ( Otac moje kćeri ) was published by the Austrian publisher Sisyphus .
