Neringa Venckienė

Neringa Venckienė (born Kedytė ; * 1971 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, former judge and politician , Seimas member (2012–2014).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1989 with distinction at the Garliava Middle School in the Kaunas district in Soviet Lithuania , Neringa Kedytė completed a degree in law from 1989 to 1995 at the Vilniaus universitetas in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius and in 2005 did a doctoral degree at the Mykolo Romerio universitetas . From 1995 to 1999 she worked as a lawyer at the Lietuvos žemės ūkio universitetas in Kaunas . In 1999 Venckienė was a candidate for a judge, from 1999 to 2007 a judge at the Kaunas District Court and from 2007 to July 2012 at the Kaunas District Court . From 2012 she was a member of the 11th Seimas , selected in the list of the co-founded party Drąsos kelias .

Escape to the USA and arrest in Chicago

As of April 2013, Venckienė no longer appeared in the Lithuanian parliament because she fled to the USA and has lived in Chicago since then . Since then, she has been wanted by Lithuanian judicial authorities. After parliamentary investigations, the Lithuanian parliament launched impeachment proceedings in 2013 for violating the Lithuanian constitution and breaking the oath of office. She was accused of being absent from the Seimas . After the allegations were confirmed by the constitutional court of Lithuania as a violation of the constitution, there was a vote in parliament on June 19, 2014, in which a close 3/5 majority (= required quorum) voted in a secret ballot for her removal from office .

At the end of February 2018, Venckienė was arrested by the American police . Since then it has been located at The Metropolitan Correctional Center of Chicago ( MCC Chicago ). The General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Lithuania initiated the extradition to Lithuania . Lithuanian prosecutors suspect Venckienė in the thirteen offenses under the Lithuanian Criminal Code .

Venckienė is divorced. She was married to lawyer Aidas Venckus until March 2014 . You have an adult son.

Her brother was Drąsius Kedys (1972-2010), who, according to the police, shot two people in his hometown.
