Nerlandsøya is the third largest island in Herøy municipality , one of the Sørøyane ("South Islands") in Sunnmøre ( Møre og Romsdal ). The archipelago is located southwest of Ålesund . On the island, the villages are Kvalsund and Kvalsvik and Koperstad . Nerlandsøya had 853 inhabitants in 2005. The island is connected to the neighboring island of Bergsøya with a bridge, the Nerlandsøybrua . The popular bathing bay Mulevika is located on the west side of the island . A road leads from the village of Kvalsvik to Mulevika. In the southwest of the island is the now uninhabited island of Skorpa , on which a herd of wild goats live.
The AIS system is also located on Nerlandsøya and is used to monitor ship traffic in the area.
The Kvalsund boat from the Viking Age was found on Nerlandsøya .
