history

The place was mentioned in 1241 in an act of the Aachen Marienstift and goes back to an urbanization between the 9th and 13th centuries. At that time , the town of Neudorf developed on two arms of the Öslinger Weg, an important traffic axis between Aachen and Trier , which later merged with Raeren, the first written mention of Raeren dating back to 1400. In the 17th century, the sources mention the localities of Raeren-Neudorf in connection with an independent parish, which separated from the parish church of St. Stephanus in Walhorn in 1670 . Finally, since 1693, the local residents have been listed in a common directory for Raeren-Neudorf, which for the year 1827 already shows 484 inhabitants for the Neudorf district.

In the 20th century there was still an old school in Neudorf, which was transferred to the Catholic rural youth in 1955, which is still based there today.

language

In addition to the standard German taught in school and used in the community, some of the population still speaks the traditional dialect of the region, which has Limburg and Ripuarian influences.
