The Neue Landschaft Ronneburg is a landscape park in Ronneburg , East Thuringia , which was created in a former uranium ore mining area of the SDAG Wismut . The 124 hectare park was one of the two exhibition areas at the 2007 Federal Horticultural Show .

Bismuth refurbishment

Remaining hole from the Lichtenberg opencast mine in October 2000

The uranium mining , which is also in the region Ronneburg both underground than in the open pit was operated, was discontinued after the fall of the 1990th Wismut, which was converted into a GmbH, then began to renovate the site, which included the Lichtenberg opencast mine with the adjacent northern heap as well as the two pairs of pointed cone heaps from Reust and Paitzdorf as landmarks that can be seen from afar .

In the course of the work, the northern heap was completely relocated to the remaining open pit, creating an artificial elevation, the Schmirchauer Höhe . The pointed cone heaps were cleared between 2004 and 2006.

For the Federal Garden Show , which took place from April 27 to October 14, 2007 in Gera and the neighboring Ronneburg, the New Landscape Ronneburg was one of the two main exhibition areas alongside the Gera Hofwiesenpark . A bus shuttle that ran at short intervals connected the Hofwiesenpark with the parking lot at Gera Airport and with the New Ronneburg landscape . At the park entrance of the New Landscape Ronneburg there were wheelchairs for the disabled and the stop for a guided tour through the spacious park area.

The focus of the exhibition on the approximately 60 hectare Buga display area in the Neue Landschaft Ronneburg was the large arboretum and the rose garden with the information hall of Wismut GmbH . The new landscape of Ronneburg is divided into two higher areas by the Gessental . These are connected by the largest wooden bridge in Europe called the Dragon's Tail . In addition, the longest bench in the world was built on the Lichtenberg edges during the 2007 Federal Horticultural Show.

An official accompanying program of the Altenburger Land district to the Federal Horticultural Show 2007 was the exhibition Resurrection Aurora (i.e. Resurrection Dawn) with the Löbichau winding tower of the former shaft 403 and a lime tree avenue for pedestrians and cyclists to the renovated Beerwalde dump , which can be walked up to the top of the mountain. In 2009 the large picture “The peaceful use of nuclear energy” by Werner Petzold, a work of Socialist Realism originally on the gable of a bismuth building in Paitzdorf, was inaugurated again between the dump and the tower. At 12 meters wide and almost 16 meters high, it is probably the largest free-standing picture in the world. The sculpture art park "Human Dimensions" was created directly under the winding tower. The Löbichau conveyor tower exhibition area is located north of Ronneburg next to the Löbichau sports field; it can be reached in a few minutes by car from Ronneburg or from the A 4 Ronneburg exit via the B 7.

Discovery Tower

Also part of the facility is the 20 m high discovery tower, built in 2006 , which can be used multifunctionally as a viewing tower and climbing wall and is reminiscent of a winding tower. On its curved reinforced concrete walls, plastic handles are attached to eight different climbing routes, which offer climbing difficulty levels 1 to 10. In the lower area, specially placed grip elements enable bouldering .

Schmirchauer Höhe

With a walk-through map on the Schmirchauer Höhe and an exhibition with models of the winding towers of the Ronneburg Revier on the Schmirchauer balcony below, the adjacent area was further designed in the years after the Buga. In 2012, the landmark “ Grubengeluchte” , visible from afar, was completed at the highest point of the hill . This 20 m high metal construction in the form of a miner's lamp can be climbed as a viewing tower and offers a viewing platform at a height of 5 m. A similar dump art sculpture is located in North Rhine-Westphalia near Moers on the dump Rhine Prussia .

The drawbridge of the weir system in the Weltentor theme park

On December 7, 2007, an agreement was reached between the city of Ronneburg, the district of Greiz and Weltentor GmbH & Co.KG Bad Frankenhausen (now Weltentor GmbH & Co.KG - Ronneburg ) to work together to set up a medieval and fantasy park in one part the New Landscape closed. This park is called the Weltentor theme park and was opened with a winter market from November 15 to December 31, 2008; regular operations began on May 1, 2009. The Weltentor GmbH & Co. KG receives funding from the state of Thuringia. In June 2009, however, Weltentor GmbH & Co. KG and Weltentor Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH filed for bankruptcy. For the time being, the park continued to be operated by an entrepreneurial company with the participation of the park employees, which, however, also filed for bankruptcy on October 15, 2009. This closed the park for good.

Until 2016, the site was leased by an association, which partly consists of former employees of the theme park. The people of Caraslan eV maintained the site. The association was terminated and the building was demolished in 2016.

Other parts of the landscape park such as the Ronneburg balcony and the former Ronneburg manor are still operated by the municipality. A fee has been charged for visiting the landscape park since 2009. On August 21, 2010, a massive open-air stage was inaugurated in the New Landscape, 90 percent of which was financed by subsidies and at the location of which there was already a temporary stage for the BUGA.
