Residential house in Neuensien

In addition to agriculture, fishing also played an important role due to the favorable location of the place. In the 18th century, the Neuensiener used a four-man boat and a pulling cord to fish together. Also fishing with fish iron, Aalspeer , Reuse and gillnet was widespread. When the real estate of the House of Putbus, to which Neuensien belonged, was reorganized in 1809, Prince Wilhelm Malte zu Putbus determined that the area south of Neuensien on the Lancker Bek should be reserved for the settlement of fishermen and boatmen. An extension of Neuensia to this area did not take place. Seedorf then developed in the following years and became an important location for shipyards in the 19th century .

From the end of the 19th century, the tradition of the barrel cutting was celebrated in Seedorf , which was also cultivated in Neuensien.

In the time of the GDR a fishing cooperative had its headquarters in Neuensien. As part of a regional reform, Neuensien was incorporated into Sellin with Altensien , Moritzdorf and Seedorf on January 1, 1962 .

economy

Although Neuensien belongs to the Ostseebad Sellin, it is away from the main streams of tourists due to its location facing away from the lake. Nevertheless, a quieter tourism has developed in Neuensien and especially in Seedorf, which today represents the most important economic branch of the place. In the summer season, shuttle buses run to Sellin for vacationers.
