New Jewish cemetery (Enkirch)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The new Jewish cemetery Enkirch is a cemetery in the local community Enkirch in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate . It stands as a cultural monument under monument protection .

The Jewish cemetery is located today in the Christian cemetery south of the country road L 192 / Starkenburger way. It has its own entrance via a small staircase, when it was built in 1885, it was still on the side of the Catholic and Protestant cemeteries. The first burial took place in 1887, a total of 27 people were buried there by 1928. It is unclear whether the two Jewish community members who died in 1931 and 1933 are still buried there, none of the two tombstones has survived, and there are no other older tombstones or the inscription tablets preserved tombstones are destroyed. 1 The cemetery was restored from the 1960s onwards, and the tombstones that were still preserved were probably not re-erected at the corresponding burial sites.
