Neundorf is a village in the German-speaking Community in Belgium and part of the municipality of Sankt Vith . Neundorf has 245 inhabitants , including the hamlet of Neubrück (information as of December 31, 2015).

geography

Neundorf is around three kilometers southwest of the core town of Sankt Vith. The area around the village is characterized by agricultural grassland. Neundorf is located directly on the former Libramont – Sankt Vith railway line , which ran over a viaduct in the northeast of the village that still characterizes the area today.

history

Neundorf was first mentioned in 888 as the Franconian royal court Nova Villa . In 1797 the neighboring villages of Neundorf, Ober-Emmels, Nieder-Emmels, Hünningen, Rodt and Hinderhausen were incorporated into the municipality of Crombach . This municipality existed until the Belgian territorial reform in 1977 , when the entire region was merged into the new large municipality of Sankt Vith.

The Mother of God Church in the center of Neundorf is a protected cultural monument . The first church in Neundorf was built in 1682, it was replaced by a new building around 1870 and some of it was equipped with the old inventory, such as the baroque altar with wooden figures of saints, wooden statues of the Madonna with the Child and St. Willibrord. The bell from 1546 originally comes from the parish church of Lommersweiler , it has been hanging in Neundorf since 1896.
