Neuwiedia siamensis is a type of the genus Neuwiedia in the family of orchid (Orchidaceae). The herbaceous plants come from Thailand .

description

Neuwiedia siamensis grows up to 80 cm. The roots are 2 to 4 mm in diameter. The leaves are oblong-oval to linear, the smallest leaves measure 9 cm in length by 3 cm in width, they can be up to 60 cm long and 7 cm in width. There are 12 to 46 leaf veins, seven of which are clearly visible. The upper leaves are hairy, especially on the leaf veins. The longest hairs are 0.5 mm long, there are no glandular hairs.

The inflorescence is a terminal cluster , it is up to 10 cm long and thus remains shorter than the leaves. Flowering plants were found in June. One inflorescence contains about 70 flowers close together . They are 30mm tall and their color is likely yellow. Inflorescence axis, bracts and petals are hairy. The bracts are elongated-oval to lanceolate-oval, they end pointedly drawn out, their length is 10 to 40 mm, the width 3 to 10 mm. The flower stalk is 3 mm long and 0.8 mm in diameter. The ovary measures 5 mm in length and 3 mm in diameter. The petals are all quite similar, but there is a very slight differentiation between the two lateral and central petals of a circle. The sepals are hairy on the outside, lanceolate in shape, the two lateral ones are 21 mm long and 4.5 mm wide. The third sepal is linear and smaller, 20 × 4 mm. The petals are provided with a longitudinal keel on the outside, this is hairy. They are obovate to oblong, the lateral ones are 17 mm long and 7 mm wide. The middle petal, the lip , is hardly different, at 18 mm it is slightly longer than the other two inner petals. All petals are provided with a small, attached point, 0.7 mm long for the three inner petals, 1.3 to 2.7 mm long for the outer ones. The column consists of three stamens and the stylus , the mm over a length of 7 are fused together at the bottom. The free part of the stamens is flattened in cross section, it measures 3 mm in length for the lateral stamens and 4 mm in the middle. The anthers are linear, the side 7 mm long and 1.2 mm wide, the middle with 6 mm a little shorter. The free part of the stylus measures 6.5 mm in length and is protruded by about 1 mm from the middle stamen. The scar is three-lobed, with a diameter of 1 mm it is wider than the stylus, which has a diameter of 0.6 mm.

Occurrence

Neuwiedia siamensis grows in Thailand in the province of Kanchanaburi (province) at altitudes of 400 to 800 meters. The species is endemic to southwestern Thailand.

Systematics and botanical history

Neuwiedia siamensis was first described by Eduard Ferdinand de Vogel in 1969 . It differs from the species Neuwiedia veratrifolia in the details of the hair, the shorter inflorescence and the longer bracts.
