Newell Convers Wyeth , known as NC Wyeth (born October 22, 1882 in Needham , Massachusetts , † October 19, 1945 in Chadds Ford , Pennsylvania ) was an American painter and famous illustrator of the 20th century .

Life

Wyeth was the son of Andrew Newell Wyeth and his wife Henriette Zirngiebel. The parents recognized his artistic talent early on. After attending high school , Wyeth went to the prestigious Brandywine School of Howard Pyle . Around 1904 he became his assistant. On April 16, 1906, he married Carolyn Bockius.

In 1941 Newell Convers Wyeth was elected a member ( NA ) of the National Academy of Design in New York .

In the later years Wyeth earned his living as an illustrator for posters, magazines, books for children and young people. From 1915 he began with wall paintings , which made him famous by the 1920s and 1930s at the latest. He created these for public and private buildings.

Wyeth died in a traffic accident when his car stopped on the rails and was hit by a train. Henriette (1907–1997), Nathaniel (1911–1990) and especially Andrew (1917–2009) inherited his artistic talent from his five children .
