Nguyễn Văn Hiệu ( Russian Нгуен Ван Хьеу ; born July 21, 1938 in Hanoi ) is a Vietnamese physicist , nuclear physicist and university professor .

Life

As the oldest of ten children, Nguyễn studied physics at the Hanoi Pedagogical University from 1954 until his graduation in 1956. He then taught physics there. He worked his way into theoretical physics and especially elementary particle physics .

In 1960 Nguyễn was sent to the Soviet Union for further training and worked at the United Institute for Nuclear Research (OIJI) in Dubna in the laboratory for theoretical physics at NN Bogolyubov . With his dissertation on neutrino physics, he received his doctorate as a candidate in the physical-mathematical sciences . In 1964 he was with his thesis Asymptotic dependence of scattering amplitudes of relativistic local quantum field theory for Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences PhD. Then he began to develop a symmetry theory of elementary particles. In 1966 he became group leader and in 1968 professor at Lomonosov University in Moscow .

In 1970 Nguyễn returned to Vietnam and became Director of the Institute of Physics and Vice Chairman of the National Research Center. He continued the cooperation with the OIJI. In 1982 he became head of department in the local laboratory for theoretical physics and a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . In addition, he was the representative of the Vietnamese government in the Scientific Council of the OIJI. From 1975 to 2006 he held leading positions in various research and educational institutions and organizations. From 2005 he headed the Asia - Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics .

Nguyễn's main research interests were the structure of the vector current in the weak interaction , the theory of the unitary symmetries of elementary particles and the Kramers-Kronig relationships . He also worked on the theory of superconductivity and examined the pairing of electrons in superconductors .
