Nicholas Mang Thang

Nicholas Mang Thang (born May 18, 1943 in Mindat ) is a Myanmar clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Mandalay .

Life

Nicholas Mang Thang was ordained a priest on March 28, 1973 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Mandalay and titular bishop of Flenucleta on June 21, 1988 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Mandalay, Alphonse U Than Aung , on January 15 of the next year; Co-consecrators were John Gabriel , auxiliary bishop in Bassein , and Gregory Taik Maung , auxiliary bishop in Prome .

On November 21, 1992 he was appointed the first bishop of the Hakha diocese, which was established on the same date . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 30, 2011 as Coadjutor Archbishop of Mandalay. Until the appointment of his successor Lucius Hre Kung on October 19, 2013, he headed the diocese of Hakha as Apostolic Administrator .

With the age-related resignation of Paul Zingtung Grawng on April 3, 2014, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Mandalay.

On April 25, 2019, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
