The Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting is a scholarship program for screenwriters , founded 1986th It is from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences administers

history

Gee Nicholl, widow of producer Don Nicholl, worked with Julian Blaustein on a program for the Academy in 1985 . The original 1986 winners were Allison Anders , Dennis Clontz, and Jeffrey Eugenides . In 1989 Radha Bharadwaj wrote his first screenplay for the drama Closet Land , which was published in 1991. Clontz won the Pulitzer Prize in 1994 and Eugenides in 2003. In 1992, Susannah Grant was awarded a scholarship and was the first to receive the Academy Award for the screenplay by Erin Brockovich . In 2010 the scholarship program celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Since the 2013 award ceremony, 17 scripts have been filmed.
