Nicholas John Collison (born October 26, 1980 in Orange City , Iowa ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2003 to 2018 . Collison spent his entire career with the Oklahoma City Thunder and previously with the Seattle SuperSonics before they moved to Oklahoma City.

Career

college

During his college days, Collison formed one of the best duos in college basketball with Kirk Hinrich . With Kansas , the two reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament in 2002 and 2003 . Collison ended his college career as the Big 12 Conference's top scorer (later this record was beaten by Andre Emmett). In Collison's honor, the university no longer awards his jersey number 4.

NBA

In the 2003 NBA Draft , Collison was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in 12th place. In Seattle, Collison developed into an important pillar within the team and achieved his career bests to date with 9.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game during the 2007/08 season .

Before the 2008/09 season , the Sonics moved to Oklahoma City and were henceforth called Oklahoma City Thunder. Collison remained loyal to the team and took on the role of veteran and high-class reservist alongside the rising stars around Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook .

He ended his career in 2018 after 15 years in the NBA. In his honor, the Thunder decided to no longer award jersey number 4.

National team

Collison was a member of the US selection at the 2002 World Basketball Championship and was a member of the 2003 US squad at the American Basketball Championship , with which he won the gold medal.
