Nicolás Rubén Medina (born February 17, 1982 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine soccer player who is currently working for Independiente Rivadavia in the Primera B Nacional , the second highest soccer league in Argentina.

Club career

Medina played between 1997 and 2001 when Argentinos Juniors and moved to the 2001/02 season for 3.5 million pounds for Sunderland in the English Premier League . There the young midfielder was never able to assert himself and became one of the most expensive wrong purchases in the club's history. In two years he came only to a single appearance in the first team Sunderlands, in an FA Cup game against Bolton Wanderers he was substituted on. In 2003 he was awarded for a year at the Spanish club CD Leganés in the Segunda División B before he left Sunderland and joined the Spanish second division Real Murcia for a season . In 2005 he returned to Argentina and has since worked for various clubs.

National team

Medina was a regular of the U20 national team during the Junior World Cup 2001 in their own country when they won the title. 2004 Medina was supplementary player in the squad of the Argentine Olympic selection, which was Olympic champion in Athens.

Medina had his only appearance in the senior national team of Argentina on September 5, 2004 when he came on as a substitute for Carlos Tévez in the 82nd minute of the World Cup qualifier against Peru . At the Copa America 2004 , Medina was in the squad, but remained without a commitment.
