Nicola Cardinal Grimaldi

Nicola Grimaldi (born December 16, 1645 near Naples , † October 25, 1717 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church and a member of a branch line of the Princely House of Monaco .

Life

After Grimaldi was governor in various cities of the Papal States, Pope Innocent XI raised him . on October 22, 1696 as a cleric in the Apostolic Chamber . Already working on the Apostolic Signature since March 1696 , in 1701 he became Secretary of the Congregation for Ecclesiastical Immunity , as well as that of Bishops and Religious .

Created cardinal deacon on May 17, 1706 , he was assigned the title deaconry Santa Maria in Cosmedin on June 25, 1706 . After he had been exempted from receiving the ordination of deacons and priests until further notice, he became papal legate in Bologna on September 13, 1706 .

Later back in Rome, he was Prefect of the Consulta , was ordained a priest on September 20, 1716 and was elevated to cardinal priest of San Matteo in Merulana on June 8, 1716 .

He died on October 25, 1717 at around 4 a.m. in his home in Rome and was buried in the Capuchin Church of Santissima Concezione . The value of his inheritance has been estimated at 1.5 million livres .
