Nicolai Müller (born September 25, 1987 in Lohr am Main ) is a German soccer player . The striker and two-time German national player is under contract in the Australian A-League with the Western Sydney Wanderers .

Club career

In his youth, Müller played for TSV Wernfeld, Eintracht Frankfurt and SpVgg Greuther Fürth . For the 2006/07 season he moved up to the second team of SpVgg, which played in the Bayern League. He made seven second division appearances in two years. After he was only used in the regional league team in the first half of the 2008/09 season , he moved to third division SV Sandhausen on loan for the rest of the 2008/09 season . For the 2009/10 season , Müller returned to Greuther Fürth.

From the 2011/12 season he played for 1. FSV Mainz 05 ; his contract ran until 2015.

For the 2014/15 season , Müller moved to Hamburger SV . He signed a four-year contract. With his goal to 2-1 in the 115th minute in the relegation second leg against Karlsruher SC on June 1, 2015, he secured HSV relegation. In the following season 2015/16 at HSV he was HSV's most successful goalscorer with nine goals in the Bundesliga, setting his personal record from his time at Mainz 05. Hamburger SV finished tenth at the end of the season. In the next season, Müller played two games in the DFB-Pokal and made 25 appearances and five goals in the Bundesliga, in which a 2-1 win on the last match day against VfL Wolfsburg kept them from relegation and placed 14th. Table position occupied.

On the first match day of the following season 2017/18, Müller scored the 1-0 in the game against FC Augsburg . While celebrating the goal, he suffered a torn cruciate ligament after twisting his knee on landing in a twisting jump. He made his comeback on the 33rd matchday. At the end of the season he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga with HSV and left the club when his contract expired.

For the 2018/19 season , Müller returned to Eintracht Frankfurt , where he had already played between 1998 and 2003 in his youth. He signed a contract running until June 30, 2020 with an option for an additional year. After failing to prevail in the first half of the season under coach Adi Hütter , he switched to league competitor Hannover 96 from January 1, 2019 until the end of the 2018/19 season . With the Lower Saxony he was relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga. Müller made 14 Bundesliga appearances under the head coaches André Breitenreiter and Thomas Doll , in which he scored 3 goals. After the end of the season he left the club with the end of his contract.

After his return to Frankfurt, the winger was without further use and finally moved to the Australian A-League for the Western Sydney Wanderers for the 2019/20 season . At the time of the change, the club was coached by Markus Babbel ; Müller meets his former Hanoverian teammate Pirmin Schwegler there .

National team

National coach Joachim Loew nominated Müller for two friendly matches for the German senior team in the USA on May 29 and June 2, 2013. He was used in both games.
