Nicolas Gédoyn

Nicolas Gédoyn (born June 15, 1677 in Orléans , † August 10, 1744 in Beaugency ) was a French cleric and translator.

Gédoyn received his education at a college of the Jesuit order . He then got a job as a "teacher of rhetoric" in Blois , today's Loir-et-Cher department . Later he was appointed canon in Sainte-Chapelle (Paris) and as such he also worked in the Abbey of Beaugency.

In 1719 Gédoyn was appointed to the Académie française (armchair 3) as the successor to the late Jacques-Louis de Valon . He was succeeded in 1744 by François-Joachim de Pierre de Bernis . In 1722 Gédoyn was appointed a member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres .
