Nicolas Moussiopoulos ( Greek Νικόλαος Μουσιόπουλος ; born January 1, 1956 in Athens ) is a Greek engineering scientist and professor at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . His main research interests are in the field of environmental engineering .

Life

Nicolas Moussiopoulos studied mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe from 1973 to 1978 and graduated from the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Mechanics in Sint-Genesius-Rode , Belgium in 1977 . After completing his doctoral studies in 1982 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe with a focus on transport phenomena, he began as a lecturer at the University of Karlsruhe, where he led a research group that developed mathematical model systems to describe the spread of air pollutants in the atmosphere. From 1986 to 1987 he was also a lecturer at the University of Kassel .

After his habilitation in heat engineering at the University of Karlsruhe in 1988, Moussiopoulos was appointed professor at the Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki , where he has headed the Institute for Heat and Environmental Technology since 1990. From 1997 to 1999 and from 2003 to 2007 he was Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Institute and from 2006 to 2010 Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2010 he has been Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Law at the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki .

From 1994 to 2001 Moussiopoulos was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Observatory in Athens , from 1998 to 2001 a full member of the Greek Research Council, where he has been a member of the Engineering Committee since 2011. Between 2005 and 2010 he was the representative for Greece at COST for Earth System Science and has been an editorial member of the scientific journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A of the British Royal Society for the field of engineering since 2011 .

Moussiopoulos received the Senator Dr. Koch Prize in 1975 and the Redtenbacher Prize of the University of Karlsruhe in 1978 and was awarded the Heinrich Hertz Prize in 1990. In 1996 he was appointed honorary professor of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe. Moussiopoulos has been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in the technical sciences section since March 26, 2002 , and in the same year he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
