Nicolaus Busch

Nicolaus Busch (born July 1, 1864 in Riga ; † October 13, 1933 there ) was a German-Baltic historian and an honorary doctorate from the University of Tübingen .

Life

Nicolaus Busch was the son of the accountant of the same name at the city economics office in Riga Nikolaus Busch and Ottilie Roemeling. He himself remained single.

He attended the Gouvernements-Gymnasium in Riga and studied history from 1883 to 1884 and from 1889 to 1893. a. with Richard Hausmann in Dorpat . After completing his studies in Riga in 1894, he was employed by the Livonian Knighthood for archival work. Also in 1894 he took over work in the library of the Society for History and Archeology in Riga, where he was also a member of the board of the Riga local branch of the German representation in Livonia . There he advanced to the position of librarian until 1902, was co-director from 1905 to 1909 and 1912 to 1933, president from 1909 to 1910 and an honorary member since 1929. As early as 1903 he became secretary of the Great Guild and was also the city librarian from 1904. From 1906 Busch was also a member of the city commission for the construction of reading rooms.

Busch was a corresponding member of the Imperial Archaeological Society in Moscow, since 1913 of the Courland Society for Literature and Art and from 1908 to 1927 also of the Estonian Scholarly Society (resigned in 1908, 1927). Since 1910 Busch was also a corresponding member and since 1913 honorary member of the Estonian Literary Society . In 1922 the University of Tübingen awarded him the graduation Dr. phil. hc

Busch is said to have been unusually knowledgeable in a wide variety of areas relating to Baltic history and also a disinterested sponsor of all research.
