Nicotiana plumbaginifolia is a plant type from the genus tobacco ( Nicotiana ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Nicotiana plumbaginifolia is an annual plant that reaches heights of 0.3 to 1 m. The stems are slender and sparsely hairy and sticky and become rough with age. The leaves are sparsely hairy and sticky, the basal leaves are inverted ovate or inverted lanceolate and about 10 to 20 cm long. The lower stem leaves are round-ovate, sessile and wavy at the edge. The tip is suddenly pointed and mostly twisted. The base is encompassing the stem or encompassing the stem with ears. The upper stem leaves are reduced, lanceolate to linearly lanceolate, their edge is strongly wavy and eyelet.

The inflorescence is a pseudo- raceme that is sometimes panicle- shaped . The flower stalks are 3 to 7 mm long, the calyx is 8 to 12 mm long, has ten ribs and lobes to the middle or further. The calyx lobes are unequal and about 4 to 8 mm long and linear-awl-shaped. The crown opens in the evening, is plate-shaped, the coronet is lavender or pink and deeply lobed. The corolla lobes are egg-shaped and pointed. The corolla tube is pale green or purple, long and slender, and becomes 2.5 to 3.5 cm long and 1.5 to 2 mm wide. The corolla tube is enlarged from 3 to 4 mm above the base. The stamens are of unequal length and start directly below the opening of the crown. The stamens are hairless and only 1 mm or less long and shorter than the anthers .

The fruit is an 8 to 11 mm long capsule . It is narrowly egg-shaped and about as long as the calyx. The seeds are round-elliptical, have a wavy-net-like surface and are about 0.5 mm long.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

The species is distributed in the Florida Keys , Mexico , Guatemala , Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina and Paraguay as well as on the West Indies . It grows there in the wet sand along rivers or on rubble sites. The locations are at altitudes between 0 and 1500 m.

Systematics
