Nicotiana setchellii is a plant type from the genus tobacco ( Nicotiana ) from the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Nicotiana setchellii is a soft woody shrub that reaches heights of two to five meters. The one to three main stems are thinly corky with age and have shallow furrows and are marked by scars from old leaves. The plants are highly branched and sticky hairy. The leaves are short on the stem, perched or provided with a short petiole . The base is lightly eyed. The leaf blade is elongated, inversely lanceolate or lanceolate-elliptical, 40 to 80 centimeters long and inconspicuously hairy on both sides.

The inflorescences are clustered panicles that have about 30 first-order branches and usually only branch once. The flower stalks are 10 to 18 millimeters long and extend to 15 to 20 millimeters on the fruits. The calyx is 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters long, wide cylindrical or cylindrical-bell-shaped. Its calyx teeth are unequal, narrowly triangular-pointed, the longest are usually as long as the corolla tube. The crown is sticky or shiny on the outside. The corolla tube is 5 mm long and slightly wider, the corolla throat is greenish-yellow in color, occasionally tinted red and divided into a cylindrical and a cup-shaped part. The cylindrical part is 1.5 to 2 inches long and 7 to 8 millimeters wide. The cup-shaped part is 15 to 18 millimeters long and twice as wide as the cylinder. The coronet is 12 to 15 millimeters wide, oriented upwards and tinted red with bronze, on the inside it is pink to red. The corolla lobes are weak to clearly pronounced and have extensive tips. The entire coronet is pentagonal. All or almost all of the stamens protrude from the crown, but do not protrude beyond the coronet. The anthers start near the crown base and are hairless or only finely haired in the lower area.

The fruit is an elliptical capsule that is 1.5 to 2 inches long. The seeds are almost spherical to inversely ovate and about 0.5 millimeters in size. They are dull brown, the surface is reticulate, the ribs are slightly wavy. The embryo is straight.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence

The species is widespread in Peru and occurs there between Chachapoyas and Leimabamba .
