action

A hot night in Mexico City : The young computer hacker Lolo has cracked the codes of Swiss bank accounts and wants to sell them to Russians with his buddies Nene and Tomson. Before his friends come by, debating the harmfulness of cigarettes, to pick up the CD with the data, he removes a spider from the lens of the camera that is secretly installed in his neighbor's apartment. His carelessness leads to various complications, which ultimately leads to the fact that the neighbor exposes him as her tensioner, angrily enters his apartment and causes chaos, which messes up the CDs. Before he has a chance to explain the circumstances, his buddies come over to pick him up. Lolo quickly grabs the CD that he thinks is the right one, and they drive to the meeting point agreed with the Russians.

There it is found that the CD is the wrong one. The Russians now think they are being cheated on, while Nene thinks the Russians would make a copy of the CD in order to get the data without paying. One Russian is shot, the other Russian mafioso flees shot with the diamonds that were agreed as payment. During the chase, Nene is shot again.

The Mafioso takes refuge in a hairdressing salon, watched by Lolo, and there he makes a short phone call in which he mentions that he has hidden the diamonds in his stomach. He dies shortly afterwards and the hairdresser comes up with the idea of looking for the diamonds.

While Tomson continues to look for the Russian, Nene tries to get medical care from the cashier at a small pharmacy, but she keeps arguing with her husband, the owner of the pharmacy, who is under stress from trying to quit smoking. Nene observes how the situation between the two almost escalates.

The policeman Sanchez comes to his appointment in the hairdressing salon. The hairdresser tells him the mafioso fell asleep. When Sanchez notices that the mafioso is losing blood, the hairdresser shoots him unceremoniously with the Russian's pistol. At gunpoint, she now demands of her husband to cut open the Russian's belly, assuming that he has swallowed the diamonds. Her husband refuses, so she takes matters into her own hands.

After the pharmacy receives a visit from a policeman who knows the pharmacy owner, Tomson comes by to check on Nene. He is shot by the pharmacist, who in turn is shot by Nene. Then Nene listens to his "mailbox", on which Lolo has spoken about the whereabouts of the mafioso. Nene goes to the hairdressing salon, where the hairdresser is eagerly looking for the diamonds in the bowels of the Russian. Nene enters the hair salon and finds the doll, in whose belly the diamonds are really located and flees. He is shot again by the hairdresser, who then sends her husband to pursue him. However, the barber leaves when Nene collapses dead on the street. Lolo, who followed the whole scene, takes the doll and goes back to his apartment. The hairdresser is found and arrested by the police during the time.

Lolo puts on water, but a little of it escapes and extinguishes the flame of the gas stove. He then has his neighbor exposed by sending her lover a message on her behalf, asking him to go to her. Here there is a loud encounter with Andrea, who is having sex with her significant other. Then Lolo wants to light a cigarette, but the apartment explodes because of the leaked gas.

The cashier blames her husband for his death because he has made himself impossible through his cigarette withdrawal; the hairdresser leaves his wife to her fate.

criticism

"Pitch-black crime comedy carried by bizarre characters and absurd situations, which thanks to amusing dialogues, loving genre quotes, a stringent staging and a playful ensemble cleverly balances tension and macabre entertainment."

"Hugo Rodriguez 'gangster-thriller-comedy' Nicotina 'is a small, atmospheric, mostly refreshing film that convinces with its good actors and a few fine moments, but which would have had the potential for more. Unfortunately, a few exaggerations and a few logical errors cloud the overall impression. "
