Nihon Densan KK ( Japanese 日本 電 産 株式会社 , Nihon Densan kabushiki-gaisha , English Nidec Corporation ) is a Japanese manufacturer of electric motors with headquarters in Kyoto . Other products include electronic and optical components, industrial robots, measuring devices, processing machines and water pumps. Its products can be found in electrical appliances and automobiles. In the 2015 financial year, net sales were just under 1.2 trillion yen , and in 2016 Nidec employed over 96,000 people across the Group.

In 1973 the company was founded by Shigenobu Nagamori. It has been represented in the USA since 1974, in Europe since 1975 (initially in the United Kingdom ), since 1992 also in Germany (initially in Frankfurt am Main ) and since 2017 in Fürstenfeld in Austria . In 2019, however, it became known that Nidec had to sell the factory in Fürstenfeld with around 400 employees for competitive reasons in order to be allowed to take over a Brazilian group. The plant is bought by the Munich finance company Orlando AG .

The company has acquired or is affiliated with 46 companies in Asia, Europe and America (as of April 2016). The well-known subsidiaries include Nihon Densan Copal (English Nidec Copal ) since 1998 and Nihon Densan Sankyō (English Nidec Sankyo ) since 2003 . In Germany, Nidec is with the companies Nidec ASI GmbH in Essen , Nidec Copal GmbH , Nidec Electronics GmbH and Nidec Motors & Actuators (Germany) GmbH in Bietigheim-Bissingen , Nidec Copal Electronics GmbH in Eschborn , Nidec Sankyo Europe GmbH in Meerbusch and Minster Machine GmbH present in halchbach . In 2015, Geräte- und Pumpenbau GmbH Dr. Eugen Schmidt in Merbelsrod and renamed NIDEC GPM GmbH . SSB Wind Systems GmbH from Salzbergen was added to the group in 2017 .
