Niederbergstraße is a district of the city of Werl in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The village has about 210 inhabitants and covers an area of ​​2.28 km². It is located about 5 km northeast of Werl.

history

Niederbergstrasse was first mentioned in the Corveyer tradition in the middle of the 9th century as “birgistratum” . Another mention comes from the year 1288. The village Bergstrasse comprised the two present-day districts Niederbergstrasse and Oberbergstrasse and in 1536 had 19 residents who were subject to tax, that is, they were subject to tax. In 1663 there were already 30 in Niederbergstrasse. From 1860 to 1967 there was a single-class school in Niederbergstrasse. The old school building is now used as a community center.

On July 1, 1969, Niederbergstrasse was incorporated into Werl.

Today the Catholics in Niederbergstrasse belong to the parish in Westönnen . Since the 14th century there was a separate chapel in Niederbergstrasse, which was demolished in 1803. The chaplains were from 1336 until the secularization of Premonstratensians of the monastery Wedinghausen asked. In 1872 a landowner built today's Maria Magdalena Chapel on private property and donated it to the community in 1925. It is a three-bay, plastered brick building. A sacristy was added in 1902, and a roof turret was added to the chapel in 1928 . The chapel was renovated in 1868 and 1949. It has a bell from 1700 and an old organ that was bought second-hand in 1872. Today the chapel is maintained by a sponsoring association .
