Lower Saxony Order of Merit

In the men's version, the Great Cross of Merit is worn on a ribbon around the neck.

The Lower Saxony Order of Merit was donated by the Lower Saxony state government as "recognition for services to the state of Lower Saxony" . The Order of Merit of the State of Lower Saxony is in stages

  • Cross of Merit on Ribbon,
  • Cross of Merit 1st Class and
  • Great Cross of Merit

awarded. Criteria for awarding the various levels of the Order of Merit are not listed in the 1961 Foundation Decree.

The Lower Saxony State Medal is intended for particularly deserving personalities . Their holders are also holders of the Great Cross of Merit.

The Lower Saxony Order of Merit has the shape of a Maltese cross. Its arms are enamelled red on both sides and have a narrow white enamel border. In the middle of the order cross, a round medallion on the front shows the herald figure from the Lower Saxony coat of arms . The ribbon is white-red-white with a thin red border.

If someone who has been awarded the Order of Merit shows behavior that is unworthy of the award, the award can be revoked by the Prime Minister. The person concerned has to return the certificate and medal.
