Niels Bötel (born March 21, 1987 in Rendsburg ) is a German handball trainer . He has been coaching the women's team at Bundesliga club VfL Oldenburg since 2017 .

Player career

Bötel began playing handball at Büdelsdorfer TSV at the age of five . After eleven years with Büdesldorfer TSV, Bötel joined the SG Flensburg-Handewitt , with whose B youth he won the German championship in 2004. He later played for the regional league team HSG Schülp / Westerrönfeld . In the summer of 2007 Bötel moved to the upper division Oldenburger Turnerbund , which he left in the same year. Bötel played from 2007 to 2014 at HSG Varel , with whom he temporarily played in the 2nd handball Bundesliga . In the 2014/15 season he went on a goal hunt for the top division TV Cloppenburg . He then became the player-coach of VfL Edewecht .

Coaching career

Bötel trained in the youth area of VfL Oldenburg from 2010 . In 2015 Bötel became the player-coach of VfL Edewecht and stayed there for two years. In 2017 he took over the Bundesliga team from VfL Oldenburg. In 2018 he won the DHB Women's Cup with Oldenburg .
