Nigel Hasselbaink (born November 21, 1990 in Amsterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch - Surinamese football player . He is the nephew of the former Suriname Dutch national player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ; his brother Marvin is also a professional soccer player. The striker plays for Hapoel Be'er Scheva and is a Surinamese international .
Career
In the club
Nigel Hasselbaink started his career at Ajax Amsterdam and moved to local rivals PSV Eindhoven in 2007 . At the club from Noord-Brabant , however, he was not used in the professional field. He made his debut during his six-month stint with the Go Ahead Eagles Deventer in the second half of the Eerste Divisie 2009/10.
On August 23, 2010 Hasselbaink moved to Hamilton Academical in the Scottish Premier League on a free transfer after completing a successful trial training session. Hasselbaink made his debut in the league game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle from the start until he was replaced by Frenchman Joël Thomas in the 78th minute . On June 6, 2011, he announced that he would be joining FC St. Mirren on June 30, 2011 . After only one year he moved to Perth to join St. Mirren's league rivals FC St. Johnstone .
In the national team
On November 15, 2019, Hasselbaink made his debut in a 4-0 win over Dominica as part of the qualification for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2021 for the Surinamese national team .
