Night Time Is the Right Time is a blues standard that has been recorded by many different artists over the years. The original version is by Roosevelt Sykes and was published on Decca 7324 in 1937. Leroy Carr is also often mentioned as an author , but he had died in 1935 without knowing this song. Over the years and countless cover versions, the song was ascribed to many other blues musicians, such as B. Ozzie Cadena, Lew Herman, also Big Bill Broonzy or Nappy Brown , who covered the song in 1957.

The line of text “Because night time, is the right time to be with the one you love” at the end of each stanza is particularly memorable. This line can also be found, for example, in I'm in the Mood by John Lee Hooker or Bob Dylan's To Be Alone With You .

The first cover version was recorded in 1938 by Big Bill Broonzy with slightly modified text (Vocalion 4149 / Conqueror 9073). Also in 1938 Roosevelt Sykes recorded a second version of the song ( Night Time Is the Right Time # 2 "Decca 7438); the lyrics were also slightly changed on this recording. The most successful version of the song is by Ray Charles from 1958. Essentially Part of the emotional intensity is the accompaniment singer Margie Hendrix , who sings a loud, ecstatic part from the middle of the song (1:30). The song only reached number 95 in the pop singles charts, but was in the R&B charts in 5th place.
