Niki Ganahl

Nikolaus "Niki" Ganahl (born September 7, 1956 in Galtür ; † August 29, 2015 in Ischgl ) was an Austrian musician , après-ski entertainer, restaurateur, farmer, ski instructor, ski guide and ski racer. He was married and the father of four sons.

Career

Niki Ganahl's sporting career began in the student squad of the ÖSV (Austrian Ski Association). At the age of 16 he joined the C team, at 17 he joined the B team and at 19 he joined the national team, from then on he competed in the World Cup with Franz Klammer , Hansi Hinterseer and Klaus Heidegger and achieved many successes in the European Cup. In a serious accident while slalom on the Turnadipass in 1975, Ganahl suffered a knee injury, as a result of which he had to quit active ski racing.

Then Ganahl worked as a ski instructor, instructor and trainer u. a. active in the federal sports center Obergurgel / Ötztal as well as in the educational institute for physical education in Vienna. In the summer, Niki Ganahl supervised the 10,000 hectare Rothschild hunt in Ischgl and Mathon as a supervisory hunter. Ganahl later worked as an entrepreneur in the hotel and agricultural sectors as well as a musician and après-ski entertainer. Niki Ganahl was a local councilor for 12 years and a member of the supervisory board for 20 years, including 7 years on the board of the Ischgl tourism association . In addition, Ganahl was the organizer of various events (e.g. soccer tournaments, biker or convertible meetings) and co-founder of the Ischgl Biker Academy.

Piz Buin and Nikis Stadl

In 1981 Niki Ganahl built the 4-star Hotel Piz Buin and then the connected après-ski hangout Niki's Stadl , where Ganahl first appeared as a DJ and then daily as an entertainer and singer. This was followed by appearances on Mallorca , Luxembourg and Germany as well as joint shows and the like. a. with Olaf Henning , Antonia from Tyrol , Peter Wackel or Mickie Krause . Fans also accompanied Niki Ganahl on his cruises and trips in the summer months. In 2009 Niki's Stadl won the 'Touristic Award - Best - Apres Ski Hut 2010' for the best après ski hut in the Alps.

In addition to Hotel Piz Buin and Niki's Stadl , Ganahl also ran the poacher's hut, the Silvretta wildlife park and the Unterschrofner Hof farm with its own cheese dairy, beekeeping and butchery.

Discography and awards

Niki Ganahl was considered a musician on the après-ski music scene. He became known with the song I bin der Ötzi , which was recorded after the glacier mummy Ötzi was found ( 1991 ). As a result of the coverage of the find, the song was played on German-speaking radio and TV stations. In 2005 Ganahl was awarded the title "Mister Top of the Mountains" and in 2006 he won the award for the best stage performance. Niki Ganahl was awarded five golden CDs ( skiing together for Gemma , Tyrolean snow , we are one big family , loyalty to the state of Tyrol and party lovers ). Ganahl also published a photo book about a trip to Dubai .
