He spent the 2008/09 season at VIK Västerås HK in HockeyAllsvenskan and was the league's best assists with 56 assists. Olausson was under contract with Luleå HF from 2009 , with whom he won the European Trophy in 2012 and became Swedish runner-up in 2013. In June 2014, EHC Biel signed Niklas Olausson for one year, and in December 2014 his engagement was extended for another season until April 30, 2016.

After the EHCB contract expired, the Swede continued his career at Oulun Kärpät in the Liiga . After one season he left the club and moved to Luleå HF, for whom he had already played from 2009 to 2014.
