Nikola Lutz (born February 23, 1970 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German composer , saxophonist and tarogatist . She is mainly active in the field of new music and experimental art. As a composer, Lutz is primarily dedicated to electronic music and the human voice. In addition to independent compositions in new music, she set numerous performances and dance performances to music .

Live and act

Lutz studied classical saxophone from 1989 to 1990 with Jean-Marie Londeix at the CNR de Bordeaux and from 1992 to 1996 at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart (saxophone with Bernd Konrad and music theory with Rainer Wehinger ). From 1997 to 1998 an artistic postgraduate course followed, and from 1999 to 2001 vocal training with Stephanie Haas.

In 1996 she began to work on composition. At the same time she expanded her instrumentation with electronics, initially as an addition to the saxophone instrument, then increasingly independent. Various instrumental works, pieces for electronics and stage works as well as radio plays are performed.

Since 2000 she has focused on performance and works with Bernhard Eusterschulte (direction) and Fabian Chyle (choreography). Setting of numerous stage works (see below). She has been using the computer as a musical instrument since 2003; she developed an interest in spatial definition of music (multi-channel technology). Up to now this development had its climax in the music theater "Irregehen" with 8-channel sound installation and 8-channel live sampling.

Lutz also participated in world premieres of the following composers: Makiko Nishikaze , Wolfgang Motz , Frederik Zeller , David Mason , Eva Barath , Gerhard Braun , Ricardas Kabelis , Dieter Kaufmann , Christopher Henry Kauffman , Walther Erbacher , Thomas Mrf. Brunner , Mark Lorenz Kysela , Andreas Krennerich , Violeta Dinescu , Helmut Öhring , Steffen Schleiermacher , Orm Finnendahl , Hans Koller , Nadir Vassena , François Rossé , Petr Pokorný and Christoph Haas . As a soloist in the field of new music, Lutz is a member of the ensemble "Duo Nikola Lutz - Armin Sommer" (saxophone and percussion).

With the video artist Kasumi and the projection artist Volker Illi , she performs audiovisual live performances. Her band "Linako's Lovely Loops" (with Christian Weber, bass, Günter Weiss, guitar, and Joke Lanz, turntables) is dedicated to free improvisation. In addition, she plays so-called noise art with "Linako & SuddenInfant".

In 2001 she initiated the Stuttgart Saxophone Festival together with Andreas Krennerich. She founded her own label “Linako Records” in 2005. Since 2006, she has been teaching classical saxophone at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts.
