Life

Shevakhov was the son of a landowner. He graduated from St. Vladimir University in Kiev in 1898 . From 1902 he was an authorized officer in the Poltava Governorate and from 1905 in the State Chancellery, where he rose to head of department with the rank of State Councilor. After the dissolution of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society , which bought land in Palestine and organized pilgrimages to the Holy Land , he was sent to Italy on December 10, 1910. Around 1900 he met the writer Sergei Alexandrovich Nilus , author of anti-Semitic writings, in Kiev and in the autumn of 1905 in Saint Petersburg . When he visited him in 1913 in the Valdai monastery and learned that Nilus was looking for a new shelter, he invited him to his family estate in Linowiza (Линовица), where he visited him frequently.

In 1916/17 he was procurator of the Holy Synod NP Raeva. On behalf of the Provisional Government he was arrested in Petrograd from March 1st to 5th, 1917 and then expelled from office. He then lived with siblings in Kiev and after the Bolshevik seizure of power in Pyatigorsk . In January 1920 he went into exile in Serbia and Italy . In 1922 Schewachow stayed in Munich and Berlin, where he met Max Erwin von Scheubner-Richter and Erich Ludendorff .

In 1926 a long legal process began between the Soviet government and representatives of the Russian Palestinian Society, which was renamed the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society .

The place and date of his death are not known. The authors of the Orthodox Encyclopedia assume that he spent the last months of his life in Transcarpathia and died in 1946.
