Nikolai Ivanovich Argunov

Nikolai Ivanovich Argunow ( Russian: Николай Иванович Аргунов ; * 1771 in St. Petersburg , † 1830 in Moscow ) was a Russian painter , portraitist and miniature painter .

Life

Argunow was the son of the serf painter Ivan Argunow . In 1809, Count Nikolai Sheremetev of Argunov died . The guardians of the underage son and heir Dmitri Sheremetev released all serfs, musicians and artists to “work with their own hands”. Argunov was now working as a self-portraitist, but the formal charter , he received only 1816, when he candidate for membership of the Imperial Academy of Arts was. In 1818 he was accepted as a member ( academy ). He was the first to paint posthumous portraits in the Baroque style. His portraits of the Sheremetews and their serf artists Praskovia Shemchugova and Tatiana Granatova are particularly well known . Argunov's paintings hang in the Sheremetyev castles of Kuskovo and Ostankino and in the Tretyakov Gallery .
